Morrison's Hotel at the corner of Edward and Water Streets opened in about 1863 after Mr. Morrison's health forced him to retire from the sea, where he had worked largely as a steward. The hotel (typical of the day before Kennedy's and the Argyll--just a large house) operated under Morrison's hand until his death in 1889. Mr. Morrison was a leading figure in the various picnics at Mowatt's Grove. His widow sold the business to Charles DeLong in 1903, and the name was changed to the Windsor House. The building declined in the middle part of the 20th century but was impressively renovated by Jay Remer in 2003.
